About

Kiki Smith once said, "If you stick with your work, it will take care of you somehow." And I agree with her. Sewing and working with fabrics are the reasons I wake up some mornings. I sew in my sleep.
I'm Katie. I'm 24 and live in Springfield, Missouri. I'm currently 3 months out from getting my BFA in Painting at Missouri State University (So close I can taste it!!). I know what you're thinking: Painting? Don't you sew sculptures on wire frames now? Yes, ma'am. But I still use a painter's eye in my work. I'm very particular about mark-making and color usage. Not to mention the ply of the fabric. Oh my goodness I love satin and tweeds! And tulle.....silk.....burlap....synthetics....

......Sorry.

I'm also the president of our local chapter of National Organization for Women (click here). My work deals very much with the social constructs placed on women and my own personal experience with gender discrimination.

If I could influence one person in my life to truly be themselves and create what they want with a purpose and a rigor - it will have all been worth it.

These are my thoughts and dreams before you. You should join in the conversation! I'm an avid art history, crocheter, and music geek. If I reference something you want to know more about, let me know [all my posts are named after song lyrics, titles, or albums - can you name that tune?]. Let's talk about it! All you seamstresses and yarn workers out there - let's share patterns!
Let's build a community of creators.

Oh, and also, I'm a huge ham in front of the camera....you'll soon see.
Thanks for reading this, I already love you. XO.
